KBH SYD

HF & VUC København Syd (Copenhagen South) is a self-governing institution financed by state subsidies accredited by the Ministry of Children and Education. We have two departments and are situated close to Copenhagen Airport in Kastrup and in Hvidovre. Both departments are 7-8 km from the city center of Copenhagen. We have 1200 students which is about 830 fulltime students. We have 90 employees whereas 70 are teachers and 6 are managers.

All over we have two pathways for young- and adult students. First, we have education at upper secondary level called Higher Preparatory Education (2-årig hf) and Higher Preparatory Single Subject Courses (hf-enkeltfag) that gives access to higher Education at College and University level. The average age of the student is about 22-23 years. The E-sport team is a part of “Higher Preparatory Education”.

Secondly, we have adult education training that is based om a long tradition for lifelong learning for adults aged 25 – 64 who are participating in adult education and training. The training programs for adults (VEU) are continuing education and training with the purpose of qualifying the workforce and the adult population in general for employment and further education and training. The general adult education programs comprise: Preparatory Adult Education (FVU), General Adult Education (AVU) and Dyslexic Education (OBU). The courses are supplied as on-line training except Dyslexic training.

We are obliged to offer guidance to students in a way that enables them to complete their education. Students enrolled in an upper secondary school or adult education will therefore have support from school staff, such as teachers, guidance counsellors or other professional staff members. They support students in various ways. As a self-governing school we are free to choose their methods and the appropriate staff to support students in completing their education. The work being done by our guidance counsellors, teachers or other professional staff members is an important part of the national effort to reduce drop-outs in education and to support students in their efforts to complete their education.

Digital thinking has emerged as a new concept to prepare the students for future challenges in an increasingly digital society. As an organization we are very much aware of its impact on the students learning and skills.
